The big game is almost here! Whether you’re watching the Super Bowl or the commercials, or just hanging out with friends, you’ll likely be tempted by some not-so-healthy foods. You might see a lot of beer, wings, dips, pizza and other typical party foods. But you can still keep it healthy while enjoying the game!
#1 Keep up (or start) your exercise routine
If you’ve got a regular exercise routine, keep it up! If you haven’t started making exercise a regular part of your life, Sunday is a great day to start. Make sure you get in your exercise before the game. You’ll burn calories, feel good, and be in a better mindset to tackle to challenges Super Bowl Sunday can present.
#2 Grab a healthy snack before the game
Before you head to the party, eat a healthy snack. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy—it can be something as simple as cottage cheese with fruit, half a turkey sandwich, or peanut butter and whole-grain crackers. This way you’ll have a solid start and also won’t be super hungry when you see huge spread of food.
#3 Look before you eat
Know your options before digging in. Take a look at the foods available and decide in advance what to eat and what to skip. I recommend having something with a little protein like a couple small sliders. Veggies are always good too as long as you don’t go crazy with high-fat dips. Salsa and guacamole aren’t bad either provided they don’t lead you to munch mindlessly on chips.
#4 Keep track
Parties are supposed to be fun, so it’s natural to get distracted by everything that’s going on. As a result, it’s also easy to lose track of what you’re eating. If you make a point to be mindful of the food you eat, you’re far less likely to overeat.
#5 (Bonus!) Bring your own dish
Bringing your own healthier dish to a party takes some of the guesswork out for you when you’re deciding what to eat. With that in mind, here are a couple recipes to get you started. Enjoy!
